Pet Cloning
Well my response to this topic was pretty easy. I had thought about this issue before and reached my conclusion. I really don't think this is that great of idea. Cloning pets would give people an idea that death is not finite. Once something has died it is dead. The same pesonality that was in your beloved pet will not necessarily be there when you clone it, it will just appear almost identical. Don't get me wrong, it would cool to be able to have my dog live forever and I will certainly miss her when she dies, but it just isn't a thing I'm going to do. It is part of a grieving process when anyone or anything dies. You have to accept they are gone and remember all the good times you had with it when it was here. And the benefit of a pet is you can always get a new one, that may not take that special pet's place, but you can get some new memories with this one.

I agree completely. It seems silly to spend TONS of money on cloning an animal in hopes of keeping memories "alive". People do it for completely sentimental reasons, I understand that some people get so attached to their pets, to the point where they become a life companion, or like a child to them. But is it a good enough reason to clone your pet just because you and your pet had a close bond? Would it be a good enough reason to clone your big brother when he passed on just because you miss him? I mean... when you think of it that way, it sounds absurd, because the clone really WOULDN'T be your brother. (not to mention he may not even look like him, because their are external factors that contribute to physical appearance)
ReplyDeleteGood post!
I like your post, simple and to the point!
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that the "wealthy" people are the most interested in cloning their dead animals right now. They could easily buy themselves a new, similar looking pet. Either way the cloning or the new pet will never be the same as the previous one. All living things die at one point, people should know it by now.
